A. Cary Hawthorne, Jr.,  87, of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Plantation Estates.  He was born on January 19, 1925 to A. Cary Hawthorne and Katherine Bogert Hawthorne in Huntington, Long Island, New York.  He received an undergraduate and master's degree from the University of Maryland.  While at the University of Maryland he was a member of the SAE fraternity.  Cary owned Hawthorne & Associates for 14 years.  He taught sales/marketing at Central Piedmont Community College for 12 years and finished his career as marketing director at Longley Supply Company in Wilmington, North Carolina.  He was married to the late lane Pence Hawthorne for 35 years.  He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Charlotte and St. John's Episcopal Church in Wilmington, North Carolina.   He was a member of  Carmel Country Club where he liked to play golf and he also enjoyed fishing trips to the Florida Keys.  He looked forward to attending football and basketball games at the University of Maryland every season.  He generously supported The University of Maryland Endowment Fund, Discovery Place, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, The Episcopal Foundation, and The Thompson Child and Family Focus Foundation.  The service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1623 Carmel Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28226 on Friday, February 3rd, at 1:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Charlotte, North Carolina.
