Mary Davidson Hancock died on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Colonnades, where she had
lived for nearly 20 years. She was born on July 24, 1919, in Jonesville, Lee County,
Virginia, the daughter of the late William Lee Davidson, Esq., and Zelma Albert Davidson.
She was predeceased by her brother, William Lee Davidson; her twin sister, Jamie
Davidson Smith; and her husband, John Harrison Hancock. She graduated from Madison
College (now JMU) in 1941 and received a M.Ed. from UVA. She taught in the Staunton
City Schools, in Lee County Public Schools, and Arlington County Public Schools. She
is survived by a nephew, a niece, and a handful of cousins. She was a lifelong
member of the United Methodist Church. A simple service and interment will be held
at a later date at the Davidson Family Cemetery in Jonesville.
