Dr. James C. Hayes, 69, of Huntsvile, Alabama, passed away Wednesday at a local hospital.
Jim Hayes was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Sonia Hayes, who
preceded him in death. Jim was raised in Arlington, Virginia and graduated from
Wakefield High School in 1960. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he
received a BS degree in electrical engineering. He continued his studies there and
received his Master's Degree and PhD in engineering science. Jim was known as a
"Triple Domer." [Person with three degrees from the same institution.]
He taught engineering at Purdue University-North Central campus from 1971
until 1984 when he moved to Huntsville and accepted a job at Colsa Corp. He retired
in April 2012.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; son, Jeffrey Hayes
of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; daughter, Jennifer Melhiser (Jason) of Florence, Alabama and
grandson, Joseph Melhiser and step-grandson, Jact Ryan Melhiser.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.
No services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
