Elvin A. and Ruth Hoy of 1001 S. 23rd Street, Arlington, Virginia; brother of Robert E.
Hoy (student at Carnegie Institute of Technology). Friends may call at the
Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria, Virginia, where funeral
services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, at 10 a.m. Interment Columbia
Gardens Cemetery.
-----Arlington VP1 Student Dies of Crash Injuries
An Arlington senior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute died yesterday as a result of a
two-car auto crash near Radford Virginia, late Saturday night. He was Charles
William Hoy, 21, of 1001 South Twenty-third Street, a 1961 graduate of Arlington's
Wakefield High School. The collision on U. S. Route 11, a mile west of Radford in
Pulaski County, oocurred about 11:45 p m . Mr. Hoy, who was alone in the car, died
about 3 a.m. from a fractured skull and other injuries. He was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Elvin A. Hoy of the Arlington address. His father is an administrative
statistician with the Army's Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the
Pentagon. The son was a rifleman and skydiver. At VPI in Blacksburg, Virginia,
he was on the rifle team and in 1962 was named to the all-State college rifle team in
Virginia. He had participated in more than 100 jumps as a parachutist and skydiver
since taking up the sport last summer. He was a licensed instructor. He
belonged to the Fallen Angels Parachute Club of the Washington area. Besides his
parents, he leaves a brother, Robert, 18, a freshman at Carnegie Instutite of Technology
in Pittsburgh. Charles was a member of VPI's cadet corps. Among those to
attend his funeral will be the VPI Honor Guard and senior members of Squadron D, the one
to which he was assigned. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the
Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock street, Alexandria. Officiating
will be Dr. David Colwell, pastor of the First Christian Church of Tenth and G Streets
N.W. Burial will be in Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington. |
