Wakefield Class of 1960
Sarasota Spring Break 2018
It is time to make plans for the , our
yearly mini-reunion in beautiful Sarasota, Florida.
Place: The Gulf Coast Beach Resort, 930 Benjamin Franklin Dr, Sarasota, Florida 34236.
This is on Lido Beach. See pictures below.
Selected dates: Tues May 1 through May 6 Sunday, 2018 or any part thereof.
The property is a 2 star motel/resort, built in the 1950's, i.e. most, but not all, of the
rooms are on the first floor. It is clean, neat, old, but on the beach. A
variety of rooms; a variety of beds. EACH ROOM IS OWNED AND DECORATED by the owner
not the management.
They have a good website which shows each room, bed(s) and has a description of what is
in the room. The bathrooms are small but clean.
On the website, you put in the dates; you can pick a type of room; number of people,
etc. Select preference. This will give you a picture of each of the available
rooms and a description of what is in the room (size of bed, etc) The price listed
is for the total number of nights you have listed. There is a 12% tax added.
No resort fees.
An example of pricing is: 1 bdrm apartment, on the 1st floor, for 5 nights
less discount is approx. $740. The deluxe studio is cheaper. A motel room,
without amenities will be $98 per night.
Our contacts via phone are Debbie, Teresa, or Greg or you can do it via website, gulfbeachsarasota.com.
Always get an email confirmation. Phone: 800-232-2489
When making a reservation, they will debit your credit card number for 1 night's rental
only. You need to mention 'Wakefield reunion' or Ken Scruggs for a discount.
They will quote you the listed price and when you check-in a 10% discount will be
deducted. We get the discount credited when we have 8 or more rentals.
A very important item for the success of this year's Party in Paradise is to have AS
MANY RESERVATIONS MADE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This is to insure that we have a good 10th
Party and enough rooms for all who are attending.
As is always the case, call Ken with questions. 8466 Lockwood Ridge
Rd. #342, Sarasota Fl 34243; 941-351-8430
The party this year (2017) was very successful. The beach was a few feet from our
front doors. There was a picnic area where we enjoyed a meal. There was a Tiki
hut where we could get out of the sun and enjoy a meal. There were chairs and
umbrella tables where we could relax and enjoy a conversation with others. It was
quiet, not too many children yet. We were a stones throw from St. Armands Circle
with shops and restaurants. For many, this was the best Party in Paradise we have
ever had, mostly due to this location.
2018 will feature both a Kentucky Derby party and a Cinco de Mayo party.
Here's a picture of Lido Key and an aerial view of the resort (pink stucco roof).
